Malaysia Standard Time (MST; Malay: Waktu Piawai Malaysia, WPM) or Malaysia Time (MYT) is a standard time used in East and West of Malaysia. The standard time is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and Coordinated Universal Time (GMT +8).

The general payment method in Malaysia is based on Cash basis. Besides of using Cash, you can also settle some of your purchases / payments by using Visa and Mastercard. However, the payment settlement of using credit card is subject to the availablity of mechant service and also depend on the type of cards accepted by individual business.

We DO NOT accept traveller's cheque. Purchasing of drinks, snacks and food at Lodge / Cafeteria are all based on CASH basis.

In short, you will need carry some cash with you to settle small amount of purchases and local currency exchange is available in town area or airport.

The Weather

Average around 32ºC and humidity can reach up to 95% throughout the year. Monsoon season is from November until February where we will expect more rain compared to other months.

Suitable Clothing

As the climate in Malaysia is generally hot and humid. It is recommended to wear clothing made out of cotton with short / long pants. In short, summer clothing is the most suitable clothing.

For outdoor activities, it is recommended to bring: Swim wear (if required), Towel, Binocular, Sun block lotion, Personal Toiletries, Insect repellent, Torchlight, Hat, Leech sock, jogging shoes / sandal and Raincoat (optional).

Getting to Sandakan

By Plane: There are flights route to Sandakan from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Tawau. Please visit AirAsia.com or Malaysia Airlines to check for availability and booking.

 

By Land: There are routes by express bus to Sandakan from Kota Kinabalu (6-7 hours), Mt. Kinabalu National Park (4-5 hours), Lahad Datu (4-5 hours), Tawau and Semporna (5-6 hours).
